Fall Fair Fun
October is the guaranteed heralder of: all things pumpkin, my birthday, and the NC State Fair. One of the biggest events in Raleigh is its State Fair as it attracts over one million people from the city and surrounding areas. Opening night, is October 17th and runs through the 27th. With nightly firework displays and all the indulgent food you could possibly think of, the NC State Fair is a must on your fall Bucket list.
No one here in the Live Raleigh office is a fan of the rides at the fair. One of us gets queasy on anything but the Ferris wheel - the other has a paralyzing fear of heights, but don’t let our reservations hold you back. They are boasting new rides like State Fair Sky Gazer a 155' Ferris Wheel, which looks to be a popular new addition. There are also old standbys like the State Fair Flyer Chair lift (which is a chair lift that takes you over the fairgrounds), the Zipper and the Tilt-a-Whirl.
The Food, oh boy are we excited about the food. The fair website released a whole bevy of new fair foods for visitors to indulge in. Matt has his eye on the JoCo HoHo ( a deep fried brisket stuffed jalapeno) and I am having a tough time deciding on which loaded baked potato to try at the new Billie’s Baked Potatoes. The state fair website has done an excellent job highlighting what is new at the fair this year and they start with delicious pictures of all the new foods. We are not drooling yet, but we might start soon.
The fair isn’t just about foods and rides, all kinds of talents and exhibitions will be on hand. The show rabbits and chickens are some of my favorite critters to go visit. If you are new to the area or have not made time to go check out the fair, we highly recommend getting in on the action. Click here to check out the website for the fair. They not only provide a map and attraction/food finder but they have fun things like scavenger hunts and lists of free activities to check out at the fair. We look forward to seeing you all there.
